National Adoption Week
Monday 20 October 2025
This National Adoption Week, we’re celebrating the ‘perfectly imperfect’ homes that make adoption possible, with this year’s campaign: A Welcome Home.
The campaign aims to inspire more people to consider adoption by challenging the myth that you need a ‘perfect’ home to adopt. It highlights what truly matters: love, stability, and a sense of belonging.
This is reflected in new data commissioned for National Adoption Week, which shows that 86 per cent of adopters surveyed were worried they needed a ‘perfect home’ prior to adoption. But whether your home is big or small, rented or owned, whether you’re single, in a relationship, or part of a wider family network – you can offer a child a place to call home.
The campaign is supported by familiar faces who share a personal connection to adoption, including The Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith (adoptive mother and grandmother to two adopted children), Dilly Carter (adopted person), Sanam Harrinanan (Post Adoption Social Worker and former Love Islander), and Charlie Mackesy (illustrator and author).
As part of the campaign, an immersive pop-up installation is opening in London and Leeds during National Adoption Week. Shaped by real stories from adoptive families across the country, the installation centres around the kitchen – often considered the heart of the home. From fridges covered in children’s artwork to family recipes, each item tells a story of how everyday moments help turn a house into a home.
This comes as the latest data in England shows a worrying drop in adoption interest – with 12 per cent fewer families stepping forward to register to adopt compared to last year, leaving 2,940 children in need of adoption.
Through A Welcome Home, You Can Adopt shows that adoption isn’t about perfection – it’s about creating a space where a child feels safe, loved, and truly at home.
