Knowing what to expect from adoption can be a huge source of anxiety. The team at Adoption Tees Valley will be honest and open about what to expect, both in the challenges and rewards and we'll guide you as best we can. The decision to adopt a sibling group was easy. We wanted more than one child and it made sense for us, we had the love, the space and the energy to give.

Is it hard? Yes, and there have been times we have questioned our sanity, usually while we are herding them out of the door to school and nursery but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The bond our children share has been evident from day one. The first thing our little girl wants in the morning is a cuddle from her big brother.

We had always wanted to have children but when it didn't happen naturally for us we started to look at adoption. We decided against IVF as an option for us and we instead focused on children in need of a forever family rather than go through the emotional anguish associated with IVF.

For my birth daughter it was almost seamless, there was no question for her that this was her sister, she knows she’s adopted but that love comes into play and she’s her sister and that’s the end of the matter

We often joked how our social worker ended up knowing more about us than some of our friends! The whole team that worked around us were so supportive too - they were always at the end of the phone or an email, and we were genuinely looked after.

As we were told we would definitely be getting our baby girl we had to plan quickly for her arrival, in particular getting the house ready and baby proofing!

We started to prepare for our little girls arrival, in the run up we started a butterfly photo album, we added family pictures of us and grandparents and added a voice message, she still loves looking at it to this day.
