Privacy Information

Adoption Tees Valley forms part of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council who are the registered data controller.  Adoption Tees Valley collect and use information personal to you in accordance with data protection legislation.

This document outlines what you can expect from Adoption Tees Valley when you provide us with your personal information.

Why are we asking for your information and how will we use the information about you?

At Adoption Tees Valley we will ensure that we have a lawful basis to collect and process your personal information and use it to deliver services to you. Examples of a lawful basis to process data include where you have given your consent, or where we hold a contract with you or where there is legislation e.g the Children and Social Work Act , that provides the legal basis on which we can process your data.

Who will use your information?

Adoption Tees Valley will use your information to help provide services to you. We will manage and process your information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.  In some instances, Adoption Tees Valley will be required to share your information with other agencies or Local Authorities to enable them  to deliver a service to you, this is because you have either given consent or we have a legal basis for doing so.

An example of this would include sharing information with other Tees Valley Local Authorities, Post Adoption Support Services, Ofsted, or other placing Local Authorities should you become approved as suitable to adopt and wish to consider a child from a Local Authority outside of the Tees Valley. In some cases data will be shared  for the prevention and detection of Fraud or Crime. We would only do this if we are legally required to do so.

Information held about you or your family will be held securely, processed in line with the Data Protection Act, retained in accordance with statutory retention rules and disposed of securely when the time comes.

What personal information do we hold about you?

 Examples of the sort of personal information we may hold about you include your name, address, contact details, such as phone number or email address, and date of birth.

We may also hold what is known as special category data which would include information relating to for example: - race or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, genetic data, biometric data and health data.

Other organisations may share your personal information with us for the purposes of service delivery or because they are legally required to do so. An example of this may include when the NHS share patient data with us or Local Authorities in which you have lived over the last 10 years.

How long will we keep your personal information?

We will not hold your personal information for longer than necessary and in accordance with our retention and destruction policy. To find out how long we will keep your information for, please contact the Information Governance Team.

How can you access or correct your personal information?

You have the right to request the following in relation to the personal information we hold. This is Subject to some legal exceptions.

You have the right:

  • to have any inaccuracies corrected;
  • to have your personal data erased;
  • to place a restriction on our processing of your data;
  • to object to processing; and
  • to request your data is portable (electronically)

 Is your personal information processed overseas?

Your information will not be processed outside the European Union, unless you are seeking to adopt overseas.

What happens if I don’t provide you with my personal information?

If you do not provide the personal information requested, it may not be possible to deliver services to you. For more information about how this might affect you please contact info@adoptionteesvalley.org.uk
